President – Alan Watkins, ASLA (Clarence Davids & Company)
Alan Watkins is an Account Representative with Clarence Davids & Company. He earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2005 and a Master of Business Administration from Northern Illinois University in 2013. Alan is involved with several professional and service organizations, including serving as the ILASLA Secretary since 2009 and the Host Chapter Co-Chair for the 2015 ASLA Annual Meeting and Expo. He is also an active member of the University of Illinois Landscape Architecture Department Resource Committee and the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association Scholarship Committee.
During Alan’s tenure with ILASLA, he has seen the organization greatly improve. He is very passionate about seeing the Illinois Chapter continue to be a leader among fellow chapters. Alan believes that the Chapter should continue to find ways to increase the value of being a member and appropriately communicate this value to prospective members. He believes that the Chapter should continue to work with allied professionals to make them aware of the great work that landscape architects are doing and find ways to collaborate on projects. He also will continue to make public awareness a top priority for the Chapter and believes it is important to celebrate the diversity of the profession.
President-Elect - Jack Pizzo, ASLA (The Pizzo Group)
Landscape architect, renowned ecologist and author of Green and Natural Spaces in Your Community, Jack Pizzo is the proud owner of The Pizzo Group. He graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a bachelor’s degree in Ornamental Horticulture as well as a Master’s degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences. Founded in 1988, the Pizzo companies are the most-awarded ecological restoration businesses in the Midwest with more than 100 honors in the last decade. Jackhas served on many boards over the years and is currently actively advising The Conservation Foundation, Salt Creek Greenway Association and is the only private business on the Illinois Prescribed Fire Certification Board.
Jack is a passionate advocate for landscape architecture and licensure of the profession. He was a fierce supporter of the program at its inception and although comes to landscape architecture from an ecological path, has maintained his license proudly for 24 years. Landscape architects are instrumental in elevating the quality of sustainable sites and natural areas to achieve unparalleled functionality while engaging and delighting people. They are the gateway to increased sustainability in the built environment. Jack is a firm believer that landscape architects should be included in all capital development projects from the beginning. Jack believes that the role of landscape architecture is key to humanizing the landscape and that working with allied professionals is necessary to create innovative spaces.
Past-President – Darrell Garrison, ASLA (Planning Resources, Inc.)
Darrell Garrison, asla, pla, noma, cpsi, is President/CEO of Planning Resources Inc. in Wheaton. Darrell has experienced professional success in the development of livable communities through planning and designs for parks and recreation spaces, downtown streetscapes, public plazas, education institutions, commercial developments and sustainable site master planning. He is the immediate past Board Chair of the Landscape Architect Registration Board with the Illinois Department of Financial Regulations, and a member of the National Organization for Minority Architects (NOMA). He is also a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI). Darrell earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and a degree in Environmental Design from Ball State University. He previously served ILASLA as the Public Service Chair and explored ways to engage public service initiatives to increase awareness and recognition of the profession.
Treasurer – Steven Halberg, ASLA (Planning Resources, Inc.)
Steven Halberg, asla, is no stranger to leadership within ILASLA. He has previously served the Chapter as both Treasurer and as a two-time President. Steve earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and also has a Masters in Business Administration from Illinois Benedictine College. He is a licensed landscape architect in Illinois and Wisconsin, and is CLARB certified. During his more than thirty-five year career as a landscape architect in Illinois, Steve has served as Superintendent of Parks and Planning with the Elk Grove Park District; Director of Planning and Development with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County; President and Principal Designer with David Gill/Steven Halberg Limited - Golf Course Architects; and Landscape Architecture Manager for Bonestroo. He is currently a Senior Consultant with Planning Resources Inc.
Secretary – Renee TeVogt, ASLA (Clarence Davids & Company)
Renee TeVogt, associate asla, is a landscape designer at Clarence Davids & Company. Her responsibilities at Clarence Davids & Company are widely based; from the first steps designing residential and commercial sites to the final steps of overseeing the installation of her designs in the field. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2013, where she was involved with ASLA as the Student Chapter President. Renee is currently working towards licensure, and as Internal Communications Chair is focused on increasing ILASLA membership and creating a constant web of communication between all members of the organization.
Trustee – Bradley McCauley, ASLA (site design group, ltd.)
Bradley McCauley, asla, is a Principal and Director of Operations at site design group, ltd. in Chicago. Brad joined the firm after graduation from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2007 with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture. His body of work includes urban waterfronts, streetscapes, residential, urban parks, playgrounds, and open space design in both the public and private sectors. A licensed landscape architect, Brad has also received Construction Document Technology certification from the Construction Specification Institute.
